Nansemond River Cleanups

River Cleanups

lowres_DSC_0535Through the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Adopt-A-Stream program, our chapter adopted the section of the Nansemond River from the dam that creates Lake Meade to just below the Hilton Garden Inn Marina.

Once or twice each year, our chapter coordinates a cleanup of the Nansemond River. Sometimes the cleanup effort will focus on only the shoreline;  other times we will use flat bottom john boats and/or canoes to pick up trash from the water also.

Usually we partner with other local conservation groups on these cleanup efforts and attempt to coordinate our scheduled dates with theirs for maximum effectiveness.

To participate in the next scheduled cleanup, please browse our website calendar and look for events entitled “River Cleanup”.  Contact our chapter’s Save-Our-Streams Chair/Clean Water Liaison for more information.
