About a dozen chapter Ikes showed up for the semi-annual chapter park workday at 8am on the morning of Saturday, April 16th with cool temperatures and just a slight breeze which made perfect conditions for a park cleanup.
Park Manager Jimmy Fanny outlined the tasks to be accomplished and the group split up into smaller teams to begin the work of raking leaves, cutting grass, weed-whacking the pond perimeter and pond dam back-side, blowing leaves away from the gazebo area, running chain saws to fell some trees, cleaning out ditches along paths, filling in ruts in the paths and stacking concrete blocks into a rain gully to control erosion.
This park workday event was scheduled one week in advance of the upcoming Teddy Bear Hunt so that the park can be groomed to be in good condition for the event. A lot was accomplished by these chapter Ikes with the added bonus of Darden Langston’s tractor’s front end loader.
After a lunch of ham sandwiches, cold bottled water, and chips, a few chapter Ikes stayed afterwards to trim tree limbs hanging over the park paths.
