Volunteers needed for upcoming Nansemond River Cleanup

April 1st, 2017 from 9:00am until 1:00pm is the date and time for the upcoming river cleanup project. Although some members have signed up to lend a hand, we still could use a few more. The Nansemond River Preservation Alliance(NRPA) is recruiting volunteers from their organization to assist us as well. This cleanup will focus on the areas behind the businesses along North Main Street and the Marina area.
Volunteers will meet in the parking lot in front of the Belk department store (on North Main Street) at the far end behind the Burger King. After a short brief, members will be assigned an area to clean up. Trash bags, trash grabbers, safety vests and cotton work gloves will be supplied. If you have your own work gloves it would be appreciated if you brought them with you.It is recommended that volunteers wear good outdoor shoes and wear long pants due to some of the areas being covered with vegetation.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation is no longer supporting the Adopt-a-stream program so we are continuing with the adoption of this section of river on our own with help from the city and other like minded organizations like the NRPA.
Volunteers can sign up at the dinner meeting on March 15th or just come out on Saturday morning, the 1st of April, 2017.
