Every year, Izaak Walton League chapters across the country present the IWLA Judge John W. Tobin Award to one of their members. To receive a Tobin Award is a singular and distinct honor because it represents a chapter’s acknowledgment of a dedicated member whose outstanding volunteer contributions to the chapter have made a difference throughout the previous year. There is only one Tobin Award given by each chapter.
In 2021, the Tobin award for 2020 was presented to chapter Ike Priscilla Taylor by chapter Award Chair Tim Doxey. Below is some background on Priscilla and some of the many things that she does for our chapter. You can see that she is very deserving of this award. Congratulations, Priscilla!
Priscilla has been a member of the Suffolk-Nansemond Chapter since December 2017. She quickly became active and was elected as a Chapter officer in the summer of 2018. She has served as our Chapter’s Secretary since that time.
Her cheerful disposition and welcoming attitude are only surpassed by her willingness to support the Chapter. While she has been busy performing the duties required as Secretary, she continued to volunteer in other key areas. In January 2020 she volunteered to establish and chair a Grants Committee. She coordinated all aspects of submitting several grant applications to the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to be reimbursed for a significant portion of the Chapter’s expenses for engineering services for an operating permit for the Chapter’s dam. In December 2020, Priscilla volunteered to serve on the Chapter’s Long Range Planning Committee to help formulate goals and objectives for 2021 and longer term planning. During 2020, she also served as one of the Chapter’s orientation team members, responsible for meeting and briefing perspective new members at the Chapter’s park. The orientation team was established to allow the Chapter to gain new members while adhering to Covid-19 restrictions, an emergent need that Priscilla willing filled.
Since becoming a member, Priscilla’s attendance at Board meetings has been almost perfect. Her minutes are concise and provide excellent records of Chapter business. Her computer skills are excellent; she maintains secretarial information in the Chapter’s cloud repository without assistance or prompting. Whatever the occasion, Priscilla arrives with a great attitude and friendly smile.
In recognition of her many talents, valued contributions and dedication to the Chapter, Priscilla was selected as this year’s Tobin Award nominee.
