Shoulders Hill Road Bike Trail – Ditch Cleanup

A couple dozen folks showed up Saturday morning 9AM December 3rd, 2016, in response to a call for volunteer help by Wayne G. Jones, Litter Control Coordinator, City of Suffolk – Public Works, to help collect trash, tires, old heavy appliances, glass bottles, and other such detritus from the roadside ditches alongside a 1 mile long bike path segment near Shoulders Hill Rd.

This group consisted of neighbors who live along Shoulders Hill Rd, a few of our very own Chapter Ikes, and folks from other nonprofit organizations as well.  Over 70 tires were collected, and we were told that several hundred more tires had been removed by city personnel days before.  This should help alleviate the mosquito infestations of the type that we witnessed back in the fall during a preliminary reconnaissance of the area.

Here are a few photos of volunteers in action helping keep Suffolk beautiful.
