Saturday morning brought overcast skies with the chance of spotty showers. Apparently, the Chapter Park was one of those spots. Participants began arriving along with a slight drizzle. The drizzle turned to a light rain but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the youngsters or the fish.
Twenty-one children, accompanied by a parent or guardian, participated in the event. Almost all of the children caught at least one fish, with many snagging several fish. The biggest catch of the day was an 8-inch-long catfish. Based on all of the smiling faces, the size of their catches didn’t matter. The majority of the children had prior fishing experience so there weren’t many “first fish” certificates, but they were all excited to share how many fish they caught and receive a certificate. There were a few “fish stories” about how many were caught.
Lunch was served to the hungry, happy anglers as the rain started to let up. After lunch there was a drawing for a youth fishing pole with some starter tackle. Emerson Holbrook (pictured below) was the lucky winner.
The day was a little soggy, but it didn’t dampen the enjoyment of a good day fishing. Thanks to all Chapter volunteers and to Gary Brown for stepping in to coordinate to make the event a success. Many of the young people thanked us for holding such a fun event.
