The chapter’s annual banquet was held on September 21st, 2016. Attendees enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Among other festivities during the evening, the Chapter Tobin Award and the IWLA National Website Award were presented.
There is only one Tobin Award given in each chapter each year. The award is given to the chapter’s most outstanding and dedicated volunteer for their contributions during the year. IWLA National Director-Virginia Division, Pam Meara attended the banquet and presented our chapter’s Tobin Award to Ricky George.
Ricky served as our chapter president from September 2011 to September 2015. He brought an enthusiastic can do attitude to the leadership of the chapter. He presented new ideas for projects involving conservation and environmental education and encouraged us to become more actively involved in our community. The award was given for his contributions and achievements made in 2015. Ricky is currently serving as a IWLA National Director-Virginia Division and the chapter’s Youth Program Coordinator.
In his capacity as a National Director, Ricky presented the 2015 Best Website Award to our chapter president, Ray Powell. 
This award is presented to the local chapter judged to have the best website in terms of appearance, originality, timeliness, news coverage and containing links to other League related conservation topics. It was more than appropriate for the award to be accepted by Ray because in addition to being the current chapter president he is also the chapter’s web master. Ray first established a chapter website in 2009 and has personally maintained and improved it ever since. In addition to his duties as president, Ray still maintains the website and is editor in chief of the newsletter. He has recently begun to share his talents with other members by teaching them how to post articles on the website and connect the newsletter and website postings to further improve the process.
