ACTIVITIES

Our Chapter Members  volunteer their time and resources on a regular basis by participating in a variety of programs and activities relating to conversation and the environment, such as pulling trash from ditches as depicted in this photo on the right.

But we do much more, as you can see from this summary of recurring events held each year at our S-N IWLA Chapter:

  • Annual Education Scholarships are awarded to students who have been accepted to or are already attending a university, college, or trade school, and who are pursuing studies pertaining to conservation and the environment.   • A couple of chapter fundraisers are held throughout the year. For specific information, see Fundraisers.
  • Semi-annual Adopt-a-Road road-side cleanups are held to clean up ditches alongside Kings Fork and Providence roads in Suffolk.  Please check our website calendar for the next scheduled event, or contact our Adopt-A-Road Chair if you have questions.
  • For information about shooting and archery classes/competitions scheduled at our Chapter park’s firing and archery ranges, please check our website calendar for the next scheduled event, or contact our Shooting Sports Coordinator or Archery Chair if you have questions.  Also, see Archery Range.
  • Annual open-to-the-public Teddy Bear Hunt is held each April.  Please check our website calendar for the next scheduled event, or contact our Youth Coordinator if you have questions.
  • Annual open-to-the-public Youth Fishing Rodeo at our chapter park pond. Please check our website calendar for the next scheduled event, or contact our Youth Coordinator if you have questions.
  • Once or twice a year, river cleanups are scheduled as part of the Adopt-A-Stream program.   • Park Maintenance workdays are scheduled 4 times per year. For specific dates and venues, always check the online chapter Calendar.  For questions, please contact our Park Maintenance Chair.
  • Annual Awards Presentations occur at the regular dinner meeting in September.
  • Regular Member Meetings: Chapter dinner meetings are held monthly usually every third Wednesday of the month (but not always) at the Oakland Church Community Life Center located in Chuckatuck at 5641 Godwin Blvd, Suffolk, VA 23434.  Socializing beforehand and sign-in at the front door entrance begins at 6pm. The meal is served promptly at 6:30PM and the cost is $10. NOTICE: we do not hold any chapter dinner meetings in the month of December. Also, in the month of May, we hold a chapter picnic in the park in lieu of a dinner meeting. For specific dates and venues, always check the online chapter Calendar.
  • Board Member meetings: Board meetings are held monthly usually at 7PM on the 2nd Monday of the month. These board meetings are held at Constantia house at 509 W.
