May 2018 Teddy Bears find a new role as “Comfort Bears”

At the recent Board of Director’s Meeting the chapter donated some unclaimed Teddy Bears to the Suffolk Fire Department. The Teddy Bears were accepted by firefighter Chris Jordan at the fire station.

The Teddy Bears were originally donated to the chapter by the Parson’s Company in support of the chapter’s recent Teddy Bear Hunt event. As a result of last minute cancellations by few event participants, the chapter had some unclaimed bears. The Board of Directors decided to play it forward and donate those bears to the fire department’s “comfort bear” program. The fire department carries  bears with them on emergency calls. The bears are given to children involved with the emergencies to help decrease their stress and anxiety.

The bears brought smiles to children’s faces during the Teddy Bear Hunt event and now, in their new role as “comfort bears”, will continue to bring smiles to those in need of one.
