Saturday March 16th turned out to be a beautiful spring day. What do you do on a beautiful spring day? Several Chapter members decided to go out and pick up other people’s trash!
Four dedicated Ikes supported the Suffolk City Clean Up. Sam Chambers (pictured left), the Chapter’s Save Our Streams Chairman, organized the event in conjunction with the City of Suffolk’s Litter Control Office. Our members managed to collect 19 bags of trash, a partial shopping cart, a broken fishing rod, and several large cardboard boxes.
Chapter turnout for the event was significantly less than expected but those who participated were treated to spectacular views of the Nansemond River. Although there was plenty of trash to pick up, volunteers were able to stop from time to time to take in the views, reflected in the photographs below. Until you get involved with a River Clean-up event, you may never get a chance to enjoy the beauty of the river that runs right through the middle of our city.
