Saturday afternoon, March 24th, the Suffolk Fire Department’s Search and Rescue Squad (SARS) conducted a missing person training exercise on our chapter’s park property.
The exercise scenario involved an abandoned vehicle that was located at our park. The owner was identified, by tracing the vehicles license plates, as the missing person. After an operational briefing, a tracking team was deployed to the missing person’s vehicle. The team then identified foot prints left by the missing person and determined their direction of travel. After following the trail from the vehicle, searchers continued calling out the name of the lost person. Eventually the person heard them and was able to call back.
Once the missing person was located the team administered first aid and prepared the subject for transportation to a medical facility.
