February 2019 Member’s Meeting

The chapter held their regular monthly dinner meeting on January 20th at the Kings Fork Community House.

After calling the meeting to order, and following the Pledge of Allegiance and Member’s Pledge, Chapter President Ray Powell asked for a moment of silence for Chapter Ike Bill Ashley, who passed on January 20th, 2019.

For the meal, a members’ chili cookoff was coordinated by Joyce Dugan who presented the awards for best chili, with 1st place golden wooden spoon award going to to John Lange, and the 2nd place red ribbon wooden spoon award going to Aaron Allen.

Proposed bylaw changes as approved by the board of directors were voted on by the membership who were present at this meeting, and passed unanimously.  Board member Tim Doxey was thanked for his efforts in spearheading this effort.  These latest bylaws are available for review as PDF documents posted at By Laws.  Wanda Gerard, Chapter Membership Chair, handed out membership cards to those present, with the remaining membership cards to be mailed out via USPS.

Three new chair positions were announced:  Board Member Gary Brown as Fundraising Chair, Vice President Darden Langston as Nominating (elections) Committee Chair, and Member Claudia Powell as Food/Facilities Chair.

Gary Brown

Gary Brown informed us that the good news is we won’t be holding our usual annual raffle fundraiser this year, and also good news, we will be holding other types of fundraisers instead, including a boston butt raffle.  Volunteer help will be needed to make these new fundraisers a success and Gary will give us more information about these opportunities in subsequent chapter newsletters and/or eblasts.

Chris Ferguson, our chapter’s Shooting Coordiator, reminded members that the members and guests .22 rimfire competition is scheduled for Saturday March 16th at 9Am and asks that all interested participants contact him to sign up for this event.

David Perdue, our chapter’s Scholarship Chair, reminded members that the $2,000 chapter education scholarship deadline for submission is April 1st and asked all to help spread the word to interested students.  See 2019 Scholarship for more information.

Tim Doxey, our chapter’s Save-Our-Stream Coordinator, reminded members that the annual chapter Nansemond river cleanup is scheduled for March 30th.  More information about this will event be presented in the March monthly newsletter.

There was no guest speaker at this dinner meeting.
