The Suffolk Clean Community Commission (SCCC) held its Fall Recycling Drive and Tire Amnesty Day event at Public Works Operations, 800 Carolina Rd, Suffolk, VA (near the airport) from 9:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday, November 21st.
Two S-N IWLA chapter volunteers, Mike Lane, and Ray Powell, showed up to help Suffolk SCCC employees Jay and Richard unload and stack over 750 used automobile and light truck tires for subsequent transport to a local facility for recycling. The chapter also received about a dozen car, truck and small lead acid batteries that will be turned in to a local recycler. Every year, our chapter supports recycling as well as trash cleanup events sponsored by the SCCC.
Wayne Jones, Suffolk Litter Coordinator, coordinated all aspects of this recycling event which included, in addition to accepting used tires, doing onsite paper shredding, receiving canned good donations for local nonprofit ForKids, and receiving household hazardous waste.

One kind Suffolk citizen named Rob who had stopped by to drop off some tires thoughtfully gave the volunteers free Chick-fil-A® sandwiches and fries for lunch and in addition donated several pairs of gloves as well! His generosity was very much appreciated.
