Fall 2015 SCCC Recycling & Tire Amnesty Day

Whilsccc_logoe many of our Members were out at the park for the Fall Cleanup, two were at the Lowe’s parking lot on Main Street supporting the Bi-Annual Recycling & Tire Amnesty Day event sponsored by the Suffolk Clean Community Commission. Mike Lane and Tim Doxey spent the day receiving and stacking tires that local citizens brought to the event. The tires are collected and then, with the support of the city public works department, picked up and taken to be recycled.

In addition to the other recyclable materials collected that day, a total of 978 tires were received. Our Chapter also supported the spring event, last April, when 1372 tires were received. That is an amazing total of 2350 tires this year.

Support of this event by our Chapter helps to prevent these tires from being improperly disposed by other means.  In the photo shown here, Jimmy Fanny about half way through the day during the April event and a city public works truck loading the tires to be transported for recycling.
