Among the other festivities of the evening, at our annual Banquet and Awards presentation event, held September 16, 2015, three of our Members were recognized for their contributions to the Chapter through the presentation of awards. Shown below are Jim Trommatter, Bill Schlaffer, and Ricky George being presented their respective awards by Ray Powell, Chapter President.
Tobin Award
There is only one Tobin Award given in each chapter each year. The award is given to the chapter’s most outstanding and dedicated volunteer for their contributions during the year. Our 2014 Tobin Award winner was James Trommatter. Ray Powell, chapter President, presented Jim with the Tobin Award plaque and award. We even managed to surprise Jim with the award.
Best Chapter Newsletter Award
Ricky George accepted the award on behalf of the chapter for the 2014 Best Chapter Newsletter. There are two National awards given for Best Chapter Newsletter. One is for Chapters with 500 members or less and the second is for Chapters with more than 500 members. Even though several members assist with the publication of our monthly newsletter, Ricky George has been Editor-in-Chief of the newsletter so it was more than appropriate that he accept the award.
National Conservation Award
William (Bill) Schlaffer received a National Conservation Award. This award is presented to individual members in recognition of their contributions to conservation in the name of the league. Bill has had a positive effective in furthering the chapter’s mission and goals for many years.
Chapter Recognition of Service Award
Ricky was also recognized by the Chapter for his accomplishments and service to the Chapter as the recent past president. He received a framed picture of the Suffolk Nansemond IWLA sign recently erected at the entrance to our Park.
