October 2015 Search and Rescue training exercise

Tidewater Search and Rescue

On October 24th, access to our park was restricted to allow Tidewater Search and Rescue to conduct a search and rescue training exercise.

The exercise consisted of a simulation of a mother and son, on their way to a football game at the King’s Fork High School in Suffolk. At around 14:30 they disappear and no one knows where they went. There is a report someone saw the son walking towards Waters Road.

Thirty five members of Suffolk Fire and Rescue, Western Tidewater Emergency Medical Corps, Gates County Search and Rescue and Tidewater Search and Rescue gathered together to coordinate a response.

Both mother and son were successfully located, in the park, and treated for simulated injuries after teams followed various clues identified during their search operations. All participating organizations considered the exercise a success.
