Fourteen (14) dedicated chapter volunteers showed up at the park gazebo bright and early on the morning of Saturday, October 16th to participate in the chapter’s semi-annual Adopt-A-Road cleanup event. Altogether, they picked up approximately 15 trash bags worth of bottles, cans, cigarette butts, and various pieces of metal, wood, and plastic debris from alongside several miles of Kings Fork and Providence roads.\"\"<\/p>\n

Afterwards, back at the gazebo, ice-cold bottled water and a few chips and cookies were passed around while all enjoyed the cool breezes blowing across the park pond.<\/p>\n

The number of hours worked by each volunteer were recorded by chapter board member Tim Doxey on work hour credit forms.\u00a0 These will be tallied by our chapter Membership committee towards fulfilling each chapter member’s volunteer participation requirement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chapter board member Mike Lane (interim Adopt-A-Road Chair), noted that our continuing participation in the Adopt-A-Road program in cleaning up these ditches is paying off with a reduced amount of trash to be collected as compared to previous years.\u00a0 Mike will return the trash pickers and safety vests to the city of Suffolk’s Litter Control Department and schedule a subsequent trash pickup from our park front gate staging area.<\/p>\n
