Despite blustery winds, cold temperatures, intermittent snow flurries and opening day of spring turkey season, enough dedicated IKES turned out at the chapter’s park on the 9th of April, to make it a successful event. 15-20 of our members managed to accomplish all the top \u00a0priority tasks on the list.<\/p>\n

A drainage ditch was dug along the road to the range to improve drainage and prevent water from\u00a0eroding the road. The ditch ended up being about a hundred feet long by the time it was finished.<\/p>\n

In between snow flurries, painting of the storage box was finished up. Everyone thought it was pretty funny when the snow flurries started about the same time we broke out the paint brushes. Some of us thought it was\u00a0more humorous than others. Luckily, the snow showers were brief enough to let us\u00a0complete the job.<\/p>\n

A small bridge over the ditch at the entrance to the range was installed to make it easier to access the range and improve run off. As everyone knows, a park cleanup is not complete without at least one chain saw running. Several dead trees were removed from the range and from the area adjacent to the gazebo.<\/p>\n

After the work was done, Bob Barnhill served up hot dogs, baked beans and cole slaw for lunch. To finish up the day Ruth Debrito and Tim Doxey conducted some prerequisite safety training for the upcoming Nansemond River cleanup project.<\/p>\n
